As of November 18th, Google announced their first APIs for Android Auto, a way to optimize applications for use in a compatible vehicle.
Right now, there are two main uses of the Android Auto APIs released, and those are Audio Applications and Messaging Applications.
Obviously, the Audio Applications will be great for things like playing music in the car, but I’m personally way more excited for the Messaging Applications. These include reading messages out loud as well as being able to reply by speaking. The ability to have messages read out loud and reply to them while keeping your concentration on the road is something that will cut back on the many tragic car accidents that happen every year.
